GOBI's Complete Guide to Cooling Gear: Every Product, Every Technology, Every Fit

Canyon Men's Cooling Vest

Summer heat doesn't care about your plans. You might be on a job site at noon, halfway through a trail, or just trying to enjoy a backyard afternoon without being miserable. The right cooling gear keeps you moving.

GOBI makes cooling products that use three different technologies. Each one works differently, fits differently, and solves a different problem. This guide breaks down the full lineup so you can pick the one that actually makes sense for how you spend your time outdoors.

Three Cooling Technologies, Explained

Before comparing individual products, it helps to understand what's actually happening inside each one.

Water Circulation (Canyon, Breeze II)
A quiet pump moves ice-cooled water through channels built into the vest. You fill an internal reservoir with cold water and a reusable ice pack, press the power button, and the system circulates that cooled water across your chest and back. This is the most powerful cooling method GOBI offers. Normal Mode runs continuous circulation for up to 8 hours. Eco Mode stretches that to 20 hours by cycling the pump on and off.

Fan-Powered Airflow (AeroVent)
Two low-profile fans pull outside air through internal channels across your torso. No water, no ice, no prep. Plug in the fans, connect the battery, and select your speed. Three settings give you between 4 and 8 hours of active airflow. This is the lightest, simplest cooling option for people who want relief without carrying water.

Evaporative Cooling (Strata Vests, Strata Cap, ChillWave Towels)
Soak the outer layer in water, wring it out, and let airflow do the rest. As the water evaporates, it pulls heat away from your skin. No battery, no pump, no charging. The Strata vests use a dual-layer design: the outer layer holds water and drives evaporative cooling while a polyurethane and nylon inner lining manages moisture so you stay dry against the skin. Works best in dry and moderate-humidity climates, and you can reactivate it anytime by re-soaking.

Peltier + Fan (Halo-iC Neck Cooler)
A compact neck-worn device that combines Peltier cooling plates with dual fans to deliver instant, targeted cooling right where blood vessels run close to the surface. Lightweight, personal, and effective for situations where a vest isn't practical.

Dry Heat vs. Humid Heat: Which Tech Works Where?

Water circulation (Canyon, Breeze II) — Works in any climate. Cooling comes from chilled water against your body, not evaporation, so humidity doesn't matter.

Fan-powered airflow (AeroVent) — Also humidity-independent. Moves air across your torso regardless of conditions. The best pick for humid climates where evaporative products stall out.

Evaporative (Strata Vests, Strata Cap, ChillWave) — Most effective in dry to moderate humidity (below ~60% RH). Relies on water evaporating off the fabric, so high humidity slows it down.

Peltier + Fan (Halo-iC) — Humidity-independent. Solid-state cooling plates work on direct contact with skin.

If you're in the Southeast, Gulf Coast, or anywhere summers are sticky, lean toward Canyon, Breeze II, or AeroVent. In dry Western heat, any product in the lineup will perform well.

The Cooling Vests

Canyon Cooling Vest (Men's and Women's)

Canyon Men's Cooling Vest - Sand

The Canyon is GOBI's most versatile cooling vest. It's a clean, zip-front design that works on its own or over a lightweight base layer. Available in four colorways for men and four for women, with a tailored cut for each.

How it works: Water circulation with included 10,000 mAh power bank. Fill the reservoir, drop in the ice pack, power on, and go.

Runtime: Up to 8 hours (Normal) or 20 hours (Eco)

Best for: Broad-range hot weather — sunny suburban yards, paved trails, hot parking lots, open-air markets, and warm commutes. Effective from the mid-80s well into triple digits. Works in both dry and humid heat since it’s active water circulation, not evaporation.

Sizing and Fit:
Canyon vests are designed to fit close to the body for maximum cooling contact. Men's sizes run S through 4XL. Women's sizes run S through 2XL. If you're between sizes, go with your standard size. The vest should lay flat against your chest and back. Too loose means the cooling channels lose contact with your body and the effect drops off.

Tip: The Canyon is designed for layering over a t-shirt or tank. Don't size up to fit a thick hoodie underneath. That defeats the purpose.

Breeze II Unisex Cooling Vest

Breeze II Unisex Cooling Vest

The Breeze II is the upgraded version of GOBI's original water-circulation cooling vest. It's a pullover style with an improved fit, better comfort, and smarter cooling control. The Breeze II High-Vis version meets ANSI Class 2 standards for jobsite compliance.

How it works: Same water-circulation system as Canyon. Includes a 10,000 mAh power bank, reservoir, and ice cores.

Runtime: Up to 12 hours (Normal) or 20 hours (Eco)

Best for: Heat-intensive work environments — asphalt, rooftops, warehouses without climate control, concrete surfaces that radiate heat, and full-sun job sites. Handles sustained high temps (90°F+) for long shifts. The High-Vis version adds ANSI Class 2 compliance for roadways, utility corridors, and DOT-regulated sites.

Sizing and Fit:
Breeze II comes in unisex sizing: S/M, L/XL, 2XL/3XL, and 4XL/5XL. These are range sizes, so if you normally wear a Medium, the S/M will fit you. If you wear a Large, go L/XL. The fit is a bit more relaxed than Canyon since it's designed for work environments where you might be moving heavy equipment or bending frequently.

Canyon Youth Cooling Vest

Canyon Youth Cooling Vest

Same technology as the adult Canyon, sized for kids. Available in S through XL.

Best for: Hot outdoor environments where kids are active — summer camps, sports fields, playgrounds, amusement parks, and family hikes in direct sun.

Strata Cooling Vest (Men's and Women's) (NEW)

Strata Men's Cooling Vest

The Strata vest is the simplest cooling vest in the lineup. No batteries, no pump, no charging. Soak the outer layer in water, wring it out, and the dual-layer construction does the rest. The outer fabric absorbs water and uses airflow to create evaporative cooling. The inner lining, made from a polyurethane and nylon blend, manages moisture so you stay dry and comfortable against the skin.

How it works: Add water to the outer layer, wring, and wear. Re-soak anytime to reactivate.

Runtime: Hours of cooling per soak, depending on conditions. Re-soak to reset.

Battery: None required.

Best for: Dry and moderate-humidity heat — open-air job sites, dusty trails, ranch land, arena environments, and anywhere with decent airflow. Evaporative cooling is most effective when relative humidity is below ~60%. The lighter the breeze, the faster it cools. Not ideal for still, humid environments where sweat already won’t evaporate.

Sizing and Fit:
Men's sizes run S through 3XL with a structured fit. Women's sizes run XS through 2XL. Both are designed to wear comfortably over a base layer or t-shirt. The vest needs some contact with your body for the cooling to transfer effectively, but because there's no water reservoir or pump, the fit is lighter and less bulky than a water-circulation vest.

AeroVent Cooling Shell (NEW)

AeroVent Cooling Shell

The AeroVent is GOBI's fan-powered cooling shell. No water, no ice, no prep time. Dual low-profile fans sit in the back and push air through internal channels across your entire torso. Three speed settings let you dial in the level of cooling you need.

How it works: Insert the fans into the back, connect the battery, and power on. Low, Medium, and High settings.

Runtime: Up to 8 hours (Low), 6 hours (Medium), 4 hours (High)

Battery: Included 10,000 mAh power bank

Best for: Warm, humid environments where evaporative products lose effectiveness — think Southern summers, tropical climates, enclosed barns, and muggy warehouse spaces. Also great in moderate heat (80s–low 90s) where you want airflow without the weight of water. Works anywhere there’s air to move.

Sizing and Fit:
Available in S through 3XL, unisex. The AeroVent fits like a lightweight shell jacket. It should have just enough room for air to flow between the shell and your base layer, but it shouldn't be baggy. The fan vents sit along your lower back, so make sure the hem isn't riding up.

Note: The AeroVent is currently available for pre-order.

Accessories and Add-Ons

Halo-iC Dual-Tech Neck Cooler

Halo-iC Dual-Tech Neck Cooler

When a vest isn't the right call, the Halo-iC delivers targeted cooling to your neck using Peltier plates and dual fans. Available in White and Navy. Lightweight, rechargeable, and easy to grab on the way out the door.

Best for: Indoor spaces without great AC — warm offices, garages, workshops, trade show floors — and short outdoor stints in direct sun. Targets the neck where blood vessels run close to the surface, so it’s effective even in high humidity. Great as a standalone in mild heat or as a supplement in extreme conditions.

Strata Cooling Cap (NEW)

Strata Cooling Cap

The Strata is a dual-layer evaporative cooling cap. Soak the outer layer, wring it out, and wear it. The inner lining manages moisture so your head stays dry while the outside layer cools. Fits under most hard hats.

Best for: Full-sun, dry-heat environments where you’re under a hard hat all day — rooftops, open fields, roadside utility work, and construction sites. Evaporative cooling works best in arid and low-humidity conditions with some airflow. Also effective on its own in any hot, breezy outdoor setting.

Fit note: One-size adjustable fit. The low-profile design is intentional. It's built to sit comfortably under a hard hat without adding bulk.

ChillWave Towel and ChillWave Hooded Towel

ChillWave Hooded Towel

Soak, wring, snap. The ChillWave towels use high-performance cooling fabric that activates instantly with water. The standard towel works around your neck or draped over your shoulders. The hooded version adds head and ear coverage for sun protection.

Best for: Any hot environment when you need instant relief — sidelines in direct sun, hot car cooldowns, mid-shift breaks on a job site, or post-workout. Works in all humidity levels since you’re applying cold water directly. The hooded version adds sun and heat protection for exposed ears and scalp.

Ice Cores and Insulation Bag

Ice Pack Insulation Bag

Extra 15 oz ice cores fit the Breeze II and Canyon vests. 13 oz ice cores fit the Zephyr Chair and Canyon Youth vest. Keep a set frozen and ready in the Ice Pack Insulation Bag so you can swap them out and extend your cooling time all day.

A Quick Note on Fit

Getting the right fit matters more with cooling gear than with regular outerwear. Here's why: cooling vests work by maintaining contact between the cooling channels and your body. If the vest is too loose, the cooled water or airflow doesn't transfer efficiently. If it's too tight, it restricts movement and makes hot weather feel worse.

General rules:

  • Order your normal size. These products are designed with cooling in mind, so the fit already accounts for comfort in the heat.
  • If you're layering over a t-shirt or thin base, stick with your true size.
  • If you're between sizes on the Canyon, size up. On the Breeze II (range sizing), your size will naturally fall into the correct bracket.
  • The Strata vests run in standard men's (S-3XL) and women's (XS-2XL) sizing. Lighter and less bulky than water-circulation vests since there's no reservoir.
  • For the AeroVent, you want a little airspace between the shell and your body. That's where the magic happens.
